Guess what? Jason and I just departed for the second stop
on our cross-China Adventure: Honhot! (Or Huhehaote in pinyin) It's a
city located in Inner Mongolia!!!
My Uncle Pan (whom I've been staying with in Beijing) drove
us to catch the 10:35 train this morning (August 5th). Jason and I each have
mid-section "soft sleeper" bunks on a K train. The top speed of a K
train is 120 km/hr (the slowest in China). A soft sleeper is a section
of 6 beds, 3 on each side. That means that Jason and I are both
sandwiched by two other bunks. As the picture of me on the bunk
illustrates, the middle bunk does not allow for enough head room to sit
upright, thus the facial expression demonstrating my surprise. The
bottom bunk offers enough room to sit, sort of like a couch, so maybe we
should splurge on one of those next time (yes, each bunk has a different
price).
I thought I'd just post a quick update. I've been a bit
backlogged on my posts about Beijing, but expect those soon. Jason and I
should have plenty of time to blog on our 8.5 hour train ride...
You'll here from us again soon! :)
We are really enjoying your blog & photos. It is so interesting. Happy Trails! Take good care of yourselves. Love to you & Jason, Poppa & Nana xo xo
